It is also scheduled for November 21-23 in Amman.

Jerash: The Grandeur of Rome in Jordan
Nestled just 30 km north of Amman, Jerash is a testament to the grandeur of the Roman Empire in the heart of Jordan. Once a member of the Decapolis League, Jerash—or Gerasa as it was known—is a showcase of well-preserved Roman architecture. Visitors are transported back in time as they stroll through the ancient city’s colonnaded streets, past the imposing Hadrian’s Arch, and into the historic Hippodrome, where the thrill of ancient chariot races comes to life.
Facts about Dana Biosphere Reserve:
Historical Significance: Jerash is considered one of the best-preserved Roman provincial towns in the world, offering a rare glimpse into the region’s ancient urbanization.
Ancient Name: In antiquity, Jerash was known as Gerasa and was a prominent city of the Decapolis, a group of ten cities on the eastern frontier of the Roman Empire.
Architectural Marvels: The city is home to the Hadrian’s Arch, built in 129 AD, the Hippodrome which could seat 15,000 spectators, and the Oval Plaza surrounded by a fine colonnade.
Cultural Heritage: Jerash hosts the annual Jerash Festival of Culture and Arts, which features a rich array of performances, including music, dance, and dramatic arts.
Archeological Wealth: Excavations have revealed extensive remains of the Roman city including paved and colonnaded streets, soaring hilltop temples, handsome theaters, spacious public squares, and plazas, baths, fountains, and city walls pierced by towers and gates.
- Proximity to Amman: Located just 30 km north of Jordan’s capital, Amman, Jerash is easily accessible by a short drive, making it a perfect day trip for visitors.
The South Theatre: Capable of seating more than 3,000 spectators, the South Theatre hosts regular performances, allowing visitors to experience the acoustic marvels of ancient architecture.
Museum Collections: The Jerash Archaeological Museum within the site provides insights into the history and culture of Jerash through its extensive collection of artifacts unearthed from the site.
Hadrian’s Arch:
This imposing structure was built to commemorate Emperor Hadrian’s visit to Jerash in 129 AD. Known locally as Qasr al-Bint, the arch was originally intended to become the main southern gate to the city, as part of an expansion project that was never completed. The arch features three vaulted openings, with the central one being the largest, and originally had wooden doors that could be closed to protect the city. Standing at over 11 meters high, Hadrian’s Arch is not only a testament to the city’s historical importance but also to the engineering prowess of the Romans. It marked the boundary and entrance to Gerasa and has survived centuries, symbolizing the enduring legacy of the Roman influence in the region.
South Theatre:
Built during the reign of Emperor Domitian, between 90-92 AD, the South Theatre can seat more than 3,000 spectators. The 1st level of the ornate stage, which was originally a two- story structure, has been reconstructed and is still used today. The theatre’s remarkable acoustics allow a speaker at the center of the orchestra floor to be heard throughout the entire auditorium without raising his voice. Two vaulted passages lead into the orchestra, and four passages at the back of the theatre give access to the upper rows of seats. Some seats could be reserved and the Greek letters which designate them can still be seen.
The Colonnaded Street:
Also known as the Cardo Maximus, this was the architectural spine and main thoroughfare of ancient Jerash, connecting the Oval Plaza to the North Gate. Lined on both sides by a broad sidewalk and a colonnade of Ionic columns, this impressive road allowed the flow of chariots and foot traffic in the bustling city. The street’s original paving stones still show the grooves worn by the wheels of Roman chariots, and the sidewalks feature the remains of the shops that once served the city’s residents and visitors. The Colonnaded Street not only highlights the urban planning of Roman cities but also reflects the economic and social vibrancy of Gerasa during its peak.
The Oval Plaza:
Unique in the Roman world for its large, oval-shaped design, the Oval Plaza of Jerash is an extraordinary example of urban innovation. This public space, also known as the Forum, is enclosed by a broad sidewalk and a stunning colonnade of 56 Ionic columns. Measuring 90 meters in length and 80 meters at its widest point, the plaza was a central meeting place in the city, likely hosting a variety of social and commercial activities. It is paved with finely cut stones that form a complex and elegant pattern, which is particularly striking given the sheer scale of the space. The Oval Plaza’s architectural significance is further enhanced by its alignment with the Cardo Maximus, demonstrating the sophisticated urban planning of the ancient city of Gerasa.

COP28: The UAE will be the host for the 28th session of the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, taking place at Expo 2020 Dubai from the end of November into December. This event is a cornerstone in global climate policy discussions and agreements.
Forbes Global Summit 2023: Taking place in Abu Dhabi, this summit will convene international leaders to address sustainability, technology, finance, and policy to promote economic growth while preserving the environment. The summit underscores the UAE’s commitment to sustainable development.
Abu Dhabi Art: Set to commence on November 22, 2023, at Manarat Al Saadiyat, this exhibition will display artistic works from across the globe, featuring UAE artist Mohammed Ahmed Ibrahim. It’s a celebration of the UAE’s vibrant art scene and cultural contributions.

Mama Shelter
A Parisian hotel brand with branches in London and Prague, Mama Shelter is a quirky budget-friendly hotel. Opening in Dubai in 2023, the hotel will have 197 rooms, each with a funky style. There will also be an all-day restaurant, a speakeasy bar and a pizza restaurant. There will also be a large pool deck and rooftop skyline bar overlooking Business Bay.

One&Only One Za’abeel
The first-ever “vertical urban resort” from ultra-luxury hospitality brand One&Only is set to welcome guests from Friday, December 1, with prices starting at Dhs3,500 per night. Hotel developer Kerzner (also the team behind Atlantis Dubai) is gearing up to unveil the new hotel, which will house the UAE’s longest infinity pool, 11 incredible new restaurants and rooms so luxurious, you wouldn’t even believe it. One&Only One Za’abeel is a property where the garden meets the sky, and where the traditional horizontal resort has been reimagined into a vertical space. Rising above the city’s Za’abeel neighbourhood, overlooking the Dubai skyline, the resort is located in one of the dual skyscrapers that are dramatically intersected by the world’s longest cantilever (panoramic sky podium). This is called The Link – a boulevard floating 100 metres above the street.

Rixos Dubai Islands, Hotel and Residences
Developer Nakheel has shared that Rixos Dubai Islands, Hotel & Residences will be the first luxury hotel and residential living area available on the plot. With over 80 resorts and hotels touted for Dubai Islands, the naming of the first is a good sign that we will soon hear about more. Those lucky enough to check in or live at Rixos Dubai Islands, Hotel & Residences can expect a prime waterfront location with the same level of service the Rixos brand provides in its other hotels. One, two and three-bedroom apartments with terraces will be available as well as four-bedroom duplexes with private pools, beach houses including gardens plus ten luxury villas.

The Dubai Balloon
Enjoy unbeatable panoramas of Dubai’s coastal sights and glittering skyline from The Dubai Balloon, a tethered helium balloon which takes guests to heights of up to 300 metres. During your 10-minute trip into the sky, you’ll get the best possible view of Palm Jumeirah, and be able to see the full extent of this man-made marvel. On a clear day, you can even see as far as Burj Khalifa and Downtown Dubai.

Dubai Mall Chinatown
Already the world’s largest shopping and leisure destination, Dubai Mall has expanded yet again with the addition of its own Chinatown. Taking over large expanses of the mall’s first floor, the new experience brings more enticing retail, dining and wellness offers to visitors. Enter its halls and you’ll be transported across the world with themed aesthetics all around – from classic red lanterns and a flurry of neon lights to a giant panda sculpture and traditional hip-and-gable roof styles decorating the outdoor storefronts. It’s also home to the Dubai outpost of Singapore’s famed Hawker Chan food stall. While Chinatown isn’t fully operational, several restaurants and a few stores are open, with many more to follow in the coming weeks.
